Tippy

Thelma Votipka (“Tippy”)

Tippy sang virtually every performance of Marianne at the Met from 1940 through the mid-‘50s. Another role she “owned” there for many seasons was The Witch in “Hansel and Gretel,” which she also recorded for Columbia in 1949. She was celebrated among her colleagues for nursing debuting Lucias through the nerves of “Regnava nel silenzio,” in another frequent role, Alisa.
