I will also be thinking of what the best use of my writing time and energy might be. Some philosophers tell us that the question, “How can I lead a good life?” comes down to “How do I want to spend my time?” And, given the season we’ve just been through and my assessment of the near-term prospects, my answer is, “Not this way.” So, while I will undoubtedly find myself down at the Metropolitan Opera House from time to time (it’s the way of my now-long life), and while I fully intend to continue engaging with the state of our art and the condition of our singing, the focus will be less predictably on what transpires down at Lincoln Center. I’ll set a target date of Friday, September 16, for the next post, and will keep you advised.
